While on Assignment 1, I took some days off drawing because my cat Paula fell ill. I had her examined by the veterinarian. He was very concerned about her condition. I’m just hoping that she will recover. It’s very sad to think that she might die in just a few months, as the vet believes. I’m glad that as least she ate a bit today. I’ve made some charcoal sketches of her and will continue to do so. I had planned this anyway for the animals part of the course, but the time available to draw her might be restricted, so I better start now and don’t wait.
My drawings were not very good. I have no practice at this, and it’s such a sad occasion. But maybe I’ll cherish these drawings later as a souvenir of her. They are much more personal than a photograph could ever be.
Update as of 13 March 2012: I am very relieved – the veterinarian had made an error when interpreting the initial laboratory results of the blood tests. It turned out that Paula’s illness should respond to treatment with Antibiotic medication. She is already much better now and I hope she’ll stay with me for much time to come!
