Check and log: Self portrait

Which drawing materials produced the best results? Why?

For me, the 4B pencil and the coloured pencils worked best. I think this was because of their capacity to create subtle tonal nuances which seems to be important when drawing faces.

Does your self portrait look like you? Show it to a couple of frinds or family members and note down their comments.

Yes, I think my self portraits look like me, in particular the second one.

Did you find it easy to convert your sketches into a portrait?

No, the sketches are something different. But they help to focus on a particular detail and then in the final sketch the task as a whole becomes less complex.

Were our preliminary drawings adequate?

No, I don’t think so. The head and neck preliminary drawings were close to ridiculous. The sketches of the portrait from memory as well. I’m under the impression that if I’m told to make a quick preliminary drawing I can’t get into the task. I seem to need the feeling that I’m doing something real, not preliminary.
